◄ 53 per cent of households have digital TV

◄ 82 per cent are happy with it - study

EVERYTHING is going swimmingly in the switch to digital TV, Broadband
and Communications Minister Stephen Conroy said this week.

New figures show more than half of Australian households have made the
switch, with 53 per cent watching digital free-to-air broadcasts.

And of those households, the overwhelming majority – 82 per cent – are
happy with the new service.

"Digital switchover is the latest national format change since decimal
currency and progress to date suggests Australians are on board,"
Senator Conroy said.

"There is still a significant challenge ahead but evidence shows
strong community awareness and satisfaction with the improved picture
and sound quality, new content and new channels."

The latest figures from market analysts GfK show sales of set-top
boxes, including personal video recorders, were up 97 per cent in the
last quarter.

"Despite a relatively low overall growth rate for the consumer
electronics segment, there was plenty of evidence to suggest that
consumers are beginning to take note of the digital switchover
advertising campaigns," GfK said.

The Government has committed to completing the switchover by the end
of 2013.

Pipe dream.
Not at all. They can simply switch off analog like they did with analog
mobile phones, and let the punters fend for themselves. Nobody cared that
the GSM system was inferior to analog for many users, and no one cared that
a couple of billion dollars in network equipment and phone handsets were
made obsolete!
Why would they care now?

They've already pulled the plug on analog TV in the US,
and Canada will be digital only by August 31, 2011.

Most Americans and Canadians have cable or satellite tv anyway.

Who needs a few dozen broadcast (free-to-air) channels when you can
watch up to
850 different channels on satellite tv, anyway ?!?!?

Bugger all.

And how many are happy with the shitty low bitrate streams,
pixellation, and poor reception during bad weather ?

No one gives a shit what you say, Conjob Boy.

Which is all subjective depending on location, equipment used, weather
conditions and whether your next door neighbour farted or not.

Most of those are shit boxes with composite connections. Try telling
those people how to timer record digital tv shows via their VCR.

Only because they have no choice in the matter.
